"I teach students how to read music. The range of my students are ages 8 through adults and from the absolute beginner to advanced. The ultimate goal is for you, the student, to be able to pick-up music and sit down to play it, know where your hands go and understand what everything means when you look at the written music. Fun music is introduced at an early stage to help you enjoy what you are playing and encourage you to continue with lessons and learn more. Annual recitals are optional but highly encouraged. They help you build confidence and help with self-esteem. Music should be fun!
In teaching piano and organ for over ten years, lessons are CUSTOMIZED to the student's needs. Private lessons help students develop at their own pace. Everyone learns differently with their own unique gifts. Communication is made to the student and parent: 1. Importance of practice and the student's responsibility. 2. Bringing the appropriate books and materials to class every week. 3. Determining their goals and objectives - WHY they are taking lessons.
I also teach other classes in a group environment. A group class called "Learn to Read Music". This class is for the absolute beginner, who may want to learn more about the written score, perhaps join a choir, handbells or tone chimes or other instruments. It helps you to be familiar with the "foreign language" of the the written score. These are six-week classes for two hours per class for a total of 12 hours. Every class builds from the previous week's lessons. A textbook was created to help reinforce the lesson materials taught during the week.
It is important to have fun while you learn a new skill. Music teaches you so much more than music!" less...
