"As a child, I wasn't very fond of reading. Sure, I read as a child...picture books, stories about monsters and movie adaptations, et cetera. "As a child, I wasn't very fond of reading. Sure, I read as a child...picture books, stories about monsters and movie adaptations, et cetera. Yet, I cannot say I truly discovered my love for literature until I was in 7th grade. It took a grisled, old teacher to finally open the door to true imagination and the understanding of the written word. She helped to expand my understanding of the world and my own views through timeless tales and the beauty of poetry.
Now, I know what you are asking yourself, what does this guy have to offer me? How can he make my son or daughter to enjoy reading? Well...that's the tricky part. How does the old saying go? "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink." I can't make you love reading or writing or literature, but I will make your brain thirst for that knowledge. At the very least, you will learn and appreciate the subject more than when you started!
I received my bachelor's degree in English, minor in Philosophy in 2005 from the State University of New York at Fredonia, where I studied many classic and contemporary writers such as, Chaucer, Shakespeare, Frost, Ginsberg and Neruda. My love of literature and teaching inspired me to pursue my master's degree in College Administration, the perfect gateway to engaging the young minds of today. My degree focuses on how students learn and develop as individuals and how that development relates to their education.
In my experience, the best way to understand literature, poetry and the way "we" write, is by discussing and relating these works to the present state of our society. In other words, trying to find similarities between these old world views and making them fresh and new to suit the digital age. Whether we are discussing novels, poems or writing response papers, I will help you or your child find a new love and understanding for the English language, even in the digital age. Let me help you to "unplug" and I'll show you "just how far the rabbit hole goes"." less...
