"I am passionate about government, and I enjoy helping others to better understand it. Our system of government, from Congress to city councils, affects everyone. In order to participate effectively as citizens, we have to understand both politics and history. Fortunately, all of us can do something to make our government more effective.

Politics caught my attention when I was a student. I earned a Bachelor's degree in political science at Eastern Michigan University. Later, I attended graduate school at Grand Valley State University. In 2012, I earned a Masters of Public Administration degree. This education is most valuable because it allows me to educate and support others.

I completed several honors writing courses through the Center for Talent Development at Northwestern University. These courses included fiction writing, poetry, and non-fiction writing. As an undergraduate student, I wrote honors reports in several subject areas. In graduate school, I wrote technical reports as well as grant applications. These experiences taught me to adjust my writing style and quickly proofread work.

I have undergraduate and graduate training in government. In graduate school, I worked as an intern at a neighborhood association and a city government. My main area of interest is transportation. As a graduate student, I helped the City of Kentwood, Michigan develop a plan for bicycles and walking trails. Since then, I have continued my transportation research as a personal project.
