"Over the past five years, I have tutored students from age nine to fifty with diverse learning goals and obstacles. Whether the subject is math, French, grammar, reading comprehension, or music, I enjoy helping each student build confidence and independent learning skills in an environment of patience and positivity. I believe that creating a space where students feel comfortable and supported enables them to meet learning goals and overcome emotional obstacles like anxiety and low self-esteem. Some students even discover that they love learning!
The one-on-one environment provides the unique opportunity to find and build on a student’s preexisting strengths and interests. Rather than providing shortcuts and answers on homework sheets, I guide students to use the resources and strategies that they already have to answer their own questions. Every student has a unique skill set, part of which is learning style. As I get to know each student, I pay close attention to the ways in which they respond to different activities. There is more than one way to learn, and I am determined to find the approach that works best for each individual.
