"With two decades of experience helping students of all levels and backgrounds achieve at the highest levels, Curtis' students consistently achieve at the top of the class. Subject matter students, some beginning sessions in the D range, become consistent "A / A-" students. All test prep students score in the 94th percentile and above, qualifying for the most selective colleges and private secondary schools. Curtis' holistic approach helps students develop confidence and skills as they learn to approach the subject matter on their own terms, considering alternate learning styles, and engaging from a place of genuine interest that fuels a life-long love of learning beyond grades and scores.
Within the first two weeks of his sophomore year at Phillips Academy, Andover, Curtis was one of the few students to pass out of the year-long Competence (in writing) requirement. He then continued to stand out in all the English classes meant for juniors and seniors, often receiving the only A+ in the section. Curtis caught the acting bug in college and graduated with a degree in Performance Studies from Northwestern University. Ultimately, however, he felt the pull towards the greatest show on Earth: education.
As a tutor and teacher, Curtis works to student strengths while developing areas that need improvement; he is a firm believer that every student can learn. As a literature analysis and writing stickler, he works hard to improve skills and ensure college readiness. Curtis' energy and sense of humor make his sessions popular- he portrays academics in a fun light, akin to what he calls the "mental and spiritual gym," where one learns how to learn while maintaining a relaxed and enjoyable environment.
When not working in education, Curtis continues to act and is currently penning two screenplays. He also loves tennis, guitar, cooking, travel, and, most of all, making his wife and kids giggle." less...
