"Hello, I'm Pete. I have been an actor, director, writer for over 40 years; all the while I have been an acting coach. Some of the institutions where I have taught: NYU (CAP21 Studio); NY Conservatory for the Arts; American Academy of Dramatic Art; National Theatre Workshop for the Handicapped; Villanova University; Hofstra University; The Philadelphia Company; and The All Stars Project. I have conducted a private acting lab in the city for over 30 years, as well as an Acting for Models Lab and Acting for Alternative Artists.
Some of the actors I have coached: Beth Behrs (Two Broke Girls); Jeremy Renner (when he first started out); Donna Murphy (multiple Tony winner); Jill Clayburgh (Academy Award Nominee); Javier Munoz (Hamilton on B'way); Adam Jacobs (Aladdin on B'way; Keri Butler (Multiple Tony Nominee); Alicia Minshew (All My Children); Branden Wellington (Sistas; Orange Is the New Black); and Brooke Tansley (Beauty & the Beast on B'way).
I have coached actors for stage, film and televisoin. I have also coached high school actors in preparation for university auditions, such as Juilliard or Carnegie Mellon; as well as younger actors preparing auditions for LaGuardia or The Professional Performing Arts High School.
Though I have studied various methodologies, I am a firm believer in focusing on the text. Each character, every scene, has its own set of acting problems that it is the actor's job to discover and solve. These solutions, more often than not, can be found in the text. I help actors learn how to read a script or screenplay with the writer’s intention in mind, enabling them to recognize where the writer wants them to make a choice, then leave the actual choice up to them. After all, that is what acting is, a personal expression of emotion.
Fell free to contact me with any questions you might have and I look forward to hearing from you." less...
