"Hi, I'm Paul. My journey into education started over 20 years ago when I was working on my Bachelor's degree in IT Security, where I finished Summa cum laude. I found early on that I enjoyed tutoring my classmates, which in turn helped not only them but myself also. It was then that I started developing techniques that made complex material easier for different learning styles to grasp. I continued my education to study math (4.0 GPA), and found myself naturally inspiring and supporting my fellow classmates. It seemed a professional role in tutoring might be what i was made to do.
I quickly became the Math Lab Coordinator at my local college, where I still teach today a decade later. Years of experience will teach you that students are indeed different. And so are their learning styles. Quickly recognizing how a student learns best is a trait that I consider critical, and so I have mastered this skill. I value how important the student's study time is, and being able to connect quickly allows for a more productive session. I was featured in promotional material developing the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program at my school, where we offer small to large classroom setting tutoring intended to bridge the gap between professor and tutor. I absolutely love to tutor one on one, but I also enjoy teaching in groups as well, as this gets communication going among students.
I like to be more than just a face giving instructions. I like to ask questions to assess a students' understanding in the subject as well as make them comfortable and confident that they will leave the session with the understanding that they were seeking. Tutoring can be fun, but being tutored can be thrilling! Most of my students actually can't wait to come to a session, as not only are they going to grasp a concept they were struggling with, but also have fun doing it. And more importantly, they will be prepared for their assessments. I hope to have the chance to share my passion with you, and to watch you succeed in your academic efforts!" less...
