"Hello! My name is Skyler Lee and I am a professional orchestral double bass player in Los Angeles with a passion for teaching! I enjoy working with students from elementary school up to college and have experience teaching at all levels of playing to prepare students for auditions and playing in school ensembles. I have taught general music at multiple elementary and high schools in Los Angeles, and have been mentoring orchestral students one-on-one and in ensembles since 2016.
Through my 11 years of playing bass, I have performed multiple times in venues such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Hollywood Bowl under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel with artists like The Moody Blues, John Legend, and Gwen Stefani, as well as the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Additionally, I have performed with soloists Gil Shaham and Esperanza Spalding in Carnegie Hall with the National Youth Orchestra. During my time at UCLA for my Bachelor's in Double Bass Performance, I was appointed as principal bass for UCLA's Philharmonic Orchestra. At the same time, I sat as assistant principal bass for the American Youth Symphony. Currently, I am in the bass section of the San Luis Obispo Symphony.
These orchestral experiences would not be possible without my time spent learning bass with the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles, which taught me the importance of having a passionate, adaptable, and motivating teacher. As such, my goal as a teacher is to spark the passion of my students to be their best selves. I aim to provide a secure and trusting relationship with my students while supporting their creativity. I do so by providing structured lessons and assignments catered to the unique learning styles and musical interests of each student so they can improve in both technique and confidence.
I look forward to working with you or your child to develop the skills and confidence on the double bass as we continue this lifelong relationship with music!" less...
