"I use a modified process writing approach to teach practical strategies that high school and college students can apply to their papers, exams, college applications, and future professional endeavors. Drawing on 25 years of experience as an editor and writer for general interest, trade, and corporate publications, I focus on quickly improving a student’s approach to composition by addressing challenges that he or she has encountered. Then, I teach fundamentals of organization and style, building on them to create habits and develop approaches that foster greater fluency.
I draw on my knowledge of literature, journalism, and popular culture to personalize my instruction in a way that will engage a student’s interests and imagination. I have a bachelor’s degree in literature from Columbia University, and have experience as both a classroom teacher and an instructor of adult non-readers. My creative writing has appeared in the New York Times and Salon.com, among other publications. I have been a contributing editor for Zagat’s dining guides, and have worked in the corporate world for major firms such as Morgan Stanley, Ernst & Young, and BNP Paribas. I am also eager to work with adults seeking to improve their business writing.
Thanks to the education I received early on from my teachers, I have been able to adapt and apply my writing skills to many different types of projects. While not everyone is going to be a writer, at some point everyone has to write – I’ll show you how to put maximum effort into planning and setup in order to facilitate the expression of ideas. I would welcome the opportunity to share practical solutions that you can use now and in the future." less...
