"For long as I can remember, I have been concerned about children with special needs. My specific interest is children with Autism.
Additionally, most of my experience as a teacher involved working with students having the Autism Spectrum disorder..
For 7 years, I actively taught students with the above disorder.
Structure, daily routines, and concentrated focus are primary challenges for students with Autism.
Each of these challenges is addressed in specific ways. For example, when a student is used to a specific routine, he/she has to be coached into varying it. One way this can be done is to give the students assigned specific dates for the routine to change. The other challenges are addressed with specific behavior to alter their responses.
Working with these Special Needs Students, was very rewarding for me. It gave me a sense of purpose and accomplishment as I helped them excel, and this was done in several ways.
For example, it was my responsibility to assess the students to determine their progress, and what other areas needed improvement.
It was necessary therefore for me to stay current in the special needs field so that I could make sure that their needs were constantly addressed and met.
Some of my best moments have resulted from my time working with these students.I also worked with other students.
For 3 years a homeschooled students. I taught students how to sound out phonics and blends, and I taught student show to pronounce words. Also, I taught students how to read books.
In Mathematics, I taught students how to count and add numbers. Last, I taught students how to write letters.
During E-Learning, I taught 3rd grade students how to pronouns blends, digraphs, and I taught the students how to read words." less...
