"I worked almost 20 years as a writer and editor, I teach children's art classes in the summer, I have a strong math & science background, and I am an artist. All this means I have a wide variety of skills and perspectives, and can help you look at any learning challenge from many different angles.
As a grandparent, I have a patient and encouraging attitude; my goal is to help the student accomplish what is important to him/her.
As an art teacher, I help my students learn to use real hand tools and solve problems as they design and build. I teach children to build toolboxes, make dragons, and create their own toys. My students learn competence, confidence, craftsmanship, and pride of workmanship.
As a professional writer/editor, I help people clarify what they really want to say, and write their ideas in strong, engaging, well developed, cohesive ways.
At UC Berkeley, I excelled in math classes through Calculus, Differential Equations, and up to Set Theory. I also worked with my own two children from elementary through high school in all their subjects.
I have been a professional writer and editor for 18 years. I wrote many papers in college (graduated summa cum laud). I've been an editor/mentor for graduate students' position papers, research papers, and dissertations, master's student thesis, and an editor/mentor for people who need help with any kind of writing. I've also done my own creative writing (poetry and fiction), so I have a wide range of writing/editing experience.
I graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts, so I've taken university level drawing and painting courses. I also have a minor in Art Education. And, I've always drawn, so I have many years practical experience.
I want to know what is important to you so I can help you achieve your goals **and** develop well-earned pride in your own workmanship. Learning is an adventure and I hope to help you navigate your journey." less...
