"Hello! My name is Ashley, and I am a professional newspaper editor looking to help other aspiring writers hone their craft. I am currently the head news editor of The Sanford Herald, a newspaper based in Sanford, Florida, and I have extensive experience in the journalism field. Before this position, I have worked as the Metro Desk Editor for the Independent Florida Alligator, an editor for The Fine Print Magazine, and I have been a reporter for those publications as well as WUFT and The Florida Basement. My absolute favorite part of my job is working with aspiring writers and helping them learn and grow. In addition, my experience within the literary field is fairly extensive and diverse. For my undergraduate studies, I graduated from the University of Florida with two degrees: a B.A. in English with a concentration in film and a B.S. in Journalism with a concentration in investigative journalism. I am a published poet and aspiring novelist. I worked as a journalist professionally for several years and my work has appeared in five different publications. My research has appeared in two different academic symposiums. I have also worked as a bookseller and I am a literary podcaster, so I am very involved in the literary field.
The most rewarding parts of my career have been working as an editor and tutoring my fellow writers. My professional work as an editor involved leading groups of writers, being on-call 24/7 to help them when needed, and teaching them to fine-tune their craft. I take a similar approach to tutoring. My goal is not to do my pupils’ work for them. It is to guide them along the way, but to ultimately give them the tools and confidence they need to succeed on their own even outside of our lessons." less...
