"Hi, I am a tutor with a decade of experience, primarily in reading comprehension, essay writing, and test preparation. I studied both English and Psychology, including: human development, childhood development, and developmental disabilities. I am further trained in: executive functioning; memory recall using the keyword approach; and organizational skills, making me a good fit for students with ADHD and other special needs. I have prepared ESL students for university, as a TOEFL teacher for 3 years (Test of English as a Foreign Language).
I work with most ages, from elementary students to adults. I assist with homework, essays, coursework comprehension, projects, and research papers. I proofread and mentor for college application essays, and supplemental questions. I work with students to apply for scholarships, workshops, internships, and honor societies. I also am skilled in test preparation, especially for the SAT, ACT, AP Language & Arts, AP Literature, AP World History, APUSH (U.S. History), and other exams. I specialize in English, Literature, and History studies, but have also worked successfully with students on math, science, and other courses.
I pride myself on my patience and kindness. My style involves both keeping students engaged, and ensuring their skills are developing in a timely manner. Using easy-to-understand explanations, I can describe high-brow reading passages with ease, or deconstruct essay questions. Students that I work with find themselves not only understanding important information, but enjoying the process of learning it. I ensure that they are able to explain the content back to me, preparing them both for tests and for practical application." less...
