"Hello, my name is Alexandra, and I am hoping to share my wisdom and academic insight with you as your tutor. In this section, I will do my best to address what I have found to be the top 2 questions amongst those requesting a private tutor.
1) What is my teaching philosophy?
I take a highly individualized approach that focuses on student empowerment and growth as lifelong learners through teaching and mentorship. My students have noted that I do a great job breaking down seemingly insurmountable concepts into simple components, and that I help them build self-confidence. I teach at the high school, college, and graduate level in one-on-one and classroom settings, but am comfortable helping anyone in their academic journey. With experience navigating college, graduate school, and medical school, I am here to make learning easier and more accessible - and I look forward to meeting and working with you.
2) What are my qualifications and experience?
My career began 10+ years ago with general chemistry tutoring (2011-present) in high school. Today, I am a professional tutor on multiple online platforms (2021-present), teaching ages 14+ in high school and collegiate general chemistry and health-related subjects (i.e., A&P, histo, micro, immuno, neuro, pharm, patho, cell bio, etc.). My capabilities as a health-related instructor stems from my MD didactics completed at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine (2021-2023), and as an Anatomy & Physiology course professor at Alamo Colleges Northeast Lakeview College (2020-2021). Prior to that, I earned my MS in Medical Sciences from The University of North Texas Health Science Center (2018-2019), served as an Academic Fellow and mentor at Rice University (2016-2017) for incoming freshmen, and earned my BA in Biochemistry & Cell Biology from Rice University (2013-2017). As noted here, I can confidently say that my capabilities as a mentor, tutor, instructor, and lifelong learner are evident." less...
