"Hi, I'm Kate!
Are you looking for a little help with Music Theory for the AP test? Are you in a Music Appreciation class that you just don't quite get? Have you always wanted to play the violin/fiddle but never knew how to start? Or are you preparing for an upcoming audition and wanted a new set of ears? Regardless your goals, I'm here to help you meet them!
I'm a professional violinist and fiddler based in Boston, MA and hold a Bachelor's Degree in Violin Performance from the Eastman School of Music and a Masters in Contemporary Musical Arts from the New England Conservatory. When not teaching, I freelance with various classical ensembles in New England, including the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and Palaver Strings. I'm also a touring musician, playing fiddle in the PBS all-star group Celtic Thunder.
While at Eastman, I studied with the Concertmaster of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Juliana Athayde, but I also fell in love with other genres of music, taking independent studies in Jazz, playing in a Bluegrass band, and forming my own Alternative-Folk band. I loved classical music, but I knew it wasn't the only thing I wanted to do in my musical career, which lead me to studying at the New England Conservatory.
While at NEC, I intensely studied Irish Traditional Music from world-renowned Irish fiddler Liz Knowles and also minored in Music Theory, studying the work of Gabriel Kahane and writing an 87-page thesis on his music. I have many different passions and I would love to share my knowledge with you to get you to be the most well-informed, well-rounded musician you can be!
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you have, and I look forward to scheduling our first lesson together!" less...
