"Hi! My name is Claudia and I'm an alumna of Washington University in St. Louis where I graduated with degrees in Film and French. Currently I work as a TV writer in LA, where my most recent credits include writing for the series A Million Little Things. While in college I worked as a Writing Center tutor for a mix of undergraduate and graduate students, so I'm used to working with people in their teens, 20s, and beyond. What I love about tutoring is the personalized feel and discussing what someone is trying to convey, be it for an argumentative essay or a nonfiction story someone is writing just for themselves. I bring this individualized approach to my own sessions and aim to make students feel confident in their abilities and comfortable enough to openly discuss their ideas together.
I have over five years of experience with one-on-one tutoring, including everything from college applications to argumentative essays to prose. When working in a TV writers' room, we regularly pitch ideas and note one another's work, so discussing story and giving feedback are skills that feel very natural to me. My method is to start from the earliest stages of an assignment; we'll begin by outlining an essay or story, then narrow in on the thesis statement and subsequent topic sentences, and then move on to filling in body paragraphs with supporting details. After a full draft is complete, we can go back through the piece together to fine tune things like sentence structure and word choice. Having a plan is crucial when it comes to writing, and I aim to guide students through each step of the process, from verbally discussing initial ideas all the way through the final editing process.
My goal is not only for clients to excel in their assignments, but for their confidence and unique voice to grow as well. I believe everyone has a story worth telling and see it as my job to help facilitate that process. I'm always happy to do a preliminary call to see if a session together feels like a good fit. Looking forward to diving" less...
