"I am a college professor and an award-winning teacher with 15 years of teaching experience at the college level. I have a PhD in Sociology and I am an accomplished researcher, writer, and teacher. What I love most about teaching is helping students understand social and cultural issues, while also growing their skills as writers and thinkers. I am the product of inspiring and engaging teaching and enjoy passing that on to others.

I enjoy helping students meet and exceed their academic goals and to apply what they learn to life outside the classroom. As a professor I get to teach classrooms of 20+ students but I also enjoy the one-on-one work with students in a tutoring setting. I had a tutor when I was in highs school and it made all the difference for me in helping me build the confidence and skills I needed to succeed.

I am a published writer, including research papers, blogs, and book chapters. I also have editing and publishing experience for academic and public audiences. I have given over 50 public talks, ranging from conference presentations to panel discussions, to radio and television interviews. Writing, teaching, and public speaking are my passions and I enjoy helping others learn these important skills.

I have a PhD in Sociology and I teach classes on U.S. society, the criminal justice system, social problems, U.S. history and culture, and documentary film making.
