"I have a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of MD at College Park. My coursework included biology, archaeology, cultural anthropology, and linguistics. My concentration within my major was biological anthropology, but I studied a broad range of subjects. For example, I studied algebra, calculus, and medieval history. I chose to take the full tracks of archaeology, cultural anthropology, and bio-anthropology classes. My well-rounded education has qualified me to competently tutor many subjects.
As a teaching assistant, I taught the UMD undergraduate introductory bio-anthropology course for two semesters. I taught the first full semester along with graduate students. By the second semester, which was condensed over the summer session of 6 weeks, I was responsible for teaching the laboratory sections of the classes by myself. I graded class papers, taught the lab and supplemental material, and supervised the lab sessions. I made study sheets for my students and held office hours. Also, I prepared visual presentations for my classes.
I also have musical experience. I have taken 15 years of classical piano lessons, six years of violin lessons, and have studied music theory. I have experience teaching children, as well as adult students. In my experience, the only major barrier to learning an instrument or an academic subject is self-doubt. Once a student is encouraged to believe that they have talent, they are more likely to excel in any subject. I have been able to encourage many students. One of my bio-anthropology students told me that I was his best teacher yet at UMD. I had a lot of positive responses to my teaching style, and the professors who worked with me were very appreciative." less...
