"Hello! My name is Alex and I am an English PhD student and instructor at a Big Ten research university studying literary, cinematic, and dramatic adaptations of Shakespeare. I completed my B.A. and M.A. in English at the University of Connecticut, where I graduated magna cum laude.

As a teacher, I love to bring my passion for interdisciplinarity into the classroom. In my courses, I encourage my students--most of them non-English majors--to bridge their personal educational interests with their writing assignments. When students are given the opportunity to write about subjects that they personally care about and are shown that their writing has a place beyond the vacuum of the student and the teacher, they produce more meaningful and thorough work.

I am always open to student feedback and am willing to adjust the direction of my courses and tutoring sessions to best satisfy your needs and interests. I strive to be clear and direct with my expectations and maintain a space in which my students can be open about theirs, as well. I work with students of all ages, and I strive to provide a supportive, safe, and encouraging environment for learning and exploration.

Some of the forms of reading and writing in which I specialize include effective research strategies and keywords; reading literature; expository, analytical, and argumentative writing; personal statements and college application essays; revision and editing; cover letters; and creative writing (poetry, fiction, and drama).

Our first lesson will begin with a Q and A session in which we will get to know one another; this will help me to determine how you work and learn best. We will also identify reading and writing strengths and opportunities for improvement. Then, we will develop your personal goals and timelines for completing them.
