"I am currently attending school to become an elementary education teacher for K-8. I have a nephew with autism and have helped him in his schooling as he is home schooled. I have had success with him by adapting my teaching methods to best suit him and his needs. For example, he was having a hard time with the letters b and d and in order to make it easier for him to recognize, I told him a b looks like a big belly, and that starts with b, and a d is a backwards b. This seemed to help him recognize the letters easier and he now has an easier time picking out the b and d's in things.

I also have two boys of my own, ages 1 and 3. I have already taught my three year old his alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, animal sounds, animals, parts of the body, and most of his nursery rhymes. I believe that repetition as well as making learning fun is essential in helping a young child learn. I am kind, patient, and love working with children from kindergarten age to 3rd grade. Children of that age group are fun to teach and I believe I have the ability and talent to help them learn. I especially love reading and writing and believe I am strongest at teaching in those areas. I try to make learning something that is fun and enjoyable for both myself and the students, and am completely open to working together with parents to find a better way to teach if the way I am doing it is not working for that particular child. I believe parents have a strong influence in their child's learning and that it is very important to keep them involved and aware of what is being taught to their children in order to give them the best possible learning experience." less...
