"I am a retired Director of Learning Support from a private school background. I am a certified teacher in California for Multiple Subjects with an English learner authorization. I worked with students with learning disabilities and attention deficit and taught a structured literacy reading program based on the Orton-Gillingham method. I have several years of experience teaching Reading and English Language Development (ELD) to students from kindergarten to 8th grade in the public school system. I also have tutored French quite extensively.
I completed my Teacher Preparation Program through Western Governors University, the only online NCATE accredited institution in Education. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature/French from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I graduated with Honors.
I enjoy working with people of all ages and like to get students engaged in the learning process. I believe all students can learn, and I will use instructional methods that work with your learning style. I like to plan ahead, and I will ask you in advance what you need to work on so that the lesson is tailored to your needs. From time to time, I will check back with you on the progress you are making so that I am aware of your individual goals being met. I believe learning should be positive, and I try to keep things light and rewarding! My goal is for you to succeed as a learner." less...
