"I have an undergraduate interdisciplinary degree in Human Studies and Science, a masters in teaching and a masters in administration. Currently, I am a certified sub in a Special Ed classroom for the remainder of this 2024 school year. I am wanting to continue teaching in the future as a tutor. One-on-one reading instruction is more focused and productive and less distractive for children who often struggle with learning in a full/busy classroom.

My experience as a reading intervention specialist spans 29 years. Some of this time was as a kindergarten, first and/or second grade classroom teacher...in public, private and charter schools. During these 29 years, I have tutored within various schools as well as being a private tutor for ages 6-12.

I've been asked to train teachers with how I get the big gains in reading. First of all, I get to know the child and how they prefer to learn by taking a Multiple Intelligences Inventory. We talk about their interest, as well as their likes and don't likes with reading and writing. Once I have those authentic assessments, I find their level of difficulty with sight word recognition, code knowledge, auditory processing, phoneme segmentation and blending tasks. The results of these assessments and surveys drive my instruction.
