"As an elementary and then middle school teacher, I realized the importance of reading instruction for student success in all academic areas. I have a Master's Degree in reading and am endorsed as a reading specialist. With 15 years of experience as a classroom teacher and 5 years experience as a middle school reading specialist I’ve been able to help struggling readers not only improve their reading skills but gain self-esteem and confidence in the process. To round out my training I became a certified SLANT instructor. SLANT is a multi-sensory structured language program where students are systematically taught phonics and phonemic awareness as well as spelling and language concepts. It is based on the Orton Gillingham program.

Tutoring lessons include:

•Fluency-lessons in building fluency, phrasing and expression.

•Study of Morphemes-an in-depth study of prefixes, root words and suffixes to help students unlock unfamiliar words and help build vocabulary.
