"Hi! I'm Skyler! I graduated from Penn State University with a Master's degree in Meteorology this past summer. I graduated summa cum laude from Stony Brook University on Long Island with a bachelor's degree in Applied Math and Statistics in 2020.
I have experience tutoring both on-campus through the university and independently around my neighborhood. As an undergraduate Peer Tutor I received a year of training and CRLA Level 2 tutor certification. I love to teach and tutor sciences and math at the high school and college level including Earth Science, Chemistry, Physics (Mechanics and Electricity-Magnetism), Algebra I and II, Trigonometry, Geometry, Calculus, and Vector Calculus.
I love to teach people about the things I love, and so tutoring has never been much of a chore for me. I am unsatisfied with myself if I feel someone doesn't really understand what I am explaining to them. In tutoring, I constantly try to make sure that the student understands the underpinnings of the subject and not just the answers. I tend to use many analogies in my tutoring to connect the topic at hand to things the student has more experience with.
I have learned that each student has a different learning style and try to adapt my lessons and approach accordingly. One on one tutoring can move at an individual's pace, concentrating on a specific area that gives them trouble, and moving more quickly through the areas that they have a better understanding of. Understanding where a student gets lost is the first step to helping them succeed.
I am available on both weekends and weekdays and am available late into the evening most days. Feel free to contact me with any questions!" less...
