"I am a retired former teacher who has lived in the Chicago area for a little over a year with my wife and three children. Before that we were in Columbus, OH. I have thousands of hours' worth of experience tutoring students of all ages and abilities for nearly two decades.

My expertise is in test prep, where I turned a career in big box learning centers into a lucrative side hustle. So far I have helped hundreds of high school students of all ability levels to improve their confidence, skills, and performance on the ACT and SAT.

In addition, I have taught both social studies and math, from the lowest levels of middle school math up to calculus. My teaching experience has produced a level of patience and compassion that allows students the leeway to try, fail, and adjust as they seek to create connections throughout difficult concepts.

My teaching style allows the student to take control of his or her own learning curve. Students learn at their own pace, with as much or as little guidance as they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond. I like to create an secure learning environment in which a student is not afraid to challenge themselves and make sometimes spectacular mistakes in order to sharpen tools they will use for the rest of their academic career.

I can also help any student with all levels of social studies as well, especially geography and US history. I created and cultivated a long-running study group for my advanced US history kids to prepare for the APUSH exam. Starting in 2021, I gathered materials from various sources and helped my students build a web of connections while honing their analytical writing and thinking skills.
