"I am Ria D., 33 years old. I am presently employed at the East Baton Rouge Parish School District, here in Louisiana, from year 2008 to the present.

As a Resource teacher at Audubon Elementary, I was assigned to handle children with developmental delay, children with autism, and other health impairments. Also, in my capacity as a public school teacher, I have gained valuable knowledge and skills on how to manage related disabilities, like autism and mild mental retardation, using a multi-disciplinary approach in Ann Arbor Montessori Learning Center from the Philippines.

Through the aid of this program, I became more confident in teaching children with special needs. I also gained respect from my superior, parents and colleagues as they observed how my students progressed academically and behaviorally. I also adopted the same instructional activities with students currently I’m working with overwhelming success. I was rated excellent for my performance by my principals and praises from parents.

To maintain professional growth, I kept abreast of the current trends in Special Education by attending professional development training offered by the school district. In addition, I’m also reading my graduate thesis in Special Education and defense for this school year.

I specialize in teaching children special education with different kinds of disabilities, I also have experience in teaching early childhood. I provide weekly and monthly assessment to keep progress monitoring.
