"Hello! My name is Michela. I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in English. I am currently an MD/PhD candidate and I am passionate about science, literature, and writing. I began tutoring because I thoroughly enjoy sharing my love for learning itself and helping students feel confident and competent at school. Witnessing students develop intellectual independence, curiosity, personal goals, and conviction in their own academic abilities is incredibly rewarding.
I have three years of tutoring experience at a CRLA certified tutoring center at my undergraduate institution (I myself am also CRLA trained). I facilitated both one-on-one tutoring sessions and small group sessions in subjects including Calculus I and II, General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I, and Biology. I also led and planned course specific, small group, question-based academic support sessions for Calculus I and General Chemistry for four semesters and one semester, respectively. Through these experiences, I learned how to synthesize and communicate material effectively for a variety of different learning styles, stimulate active learning, and help students understand what study strategies work best for them.
I am deeply committed to helping students master course material and develop efficient and effective studying habits. Ultimately, I hope to nurture enthusiasm and confidence for learning! I am welcome to suggestions and easy to reach. Let’s get to work!
I will not only help with specific questions and topics, I will also emphasize the importance of understanding how foundational concepts connect to real world applications and the way patterns in solving problems can help studying and overall comprehension. I am an experienced writer and editor in both scientifically technical and literary contexts.
Reach out! I love tutoring and I am excited to get started." less...
