"I am a passionate scientist and educator currently teaching at a magnet high school in north New Jersey. I hold a Ph.D. in Physiology, Biophysics, and Systems Biology from Weill Cornell University and have previously worked in a biotech startup. My journey into teaching has been incredibly rewarding; I find that the process of explaining complex topics not only enhances my own understanding but also empowers my students. My goal is to make challenging subjects more intuitive and accessible, encouraging students to develop their own learning strategies. I believe in fostering a growth mindset, where students learn to "learn to learn," thus minimizing their dependency on tutoring in the long run.
While I tutored high school students in 2010-2011, my more recent teaching experience includes serving as a teaching assistant during my graduate studies, where I taught both undergraduate and graduate students. Since September 2021, I have been teaching a variety of courses, including Biology, Experimental Biology, and Biotechnology, to underclassmen. Additionally, I mentor students in research, providing them with one-on-one support throughout their high school journey. This mentorship allows me to cultivate deeper relationships with my students, guiding them as they navigate their scientific inquiries and develop their critical thinking skills.
I strive to relate scientific concepts to everyday life, making the material more relevant and memorable. I recognize that many students struggle with the pressure of exams, often resorting to rote memorization. Instead, I aim to create a learning environment where they can grasp the underlying principles, ensuring a more meaningful and lasting understanding of the subject matter. My ultimate goal is to inspire a love for science in my students, equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their academic and future endeavors." less...
