"I've been a teacher and tutor more than 20 years. I'm patient, approachable and make learning fun and engaging. "I've been a teacher and tutor more than 20 years. I'm patient, approachable and make learning fun and engaging. Because each student's learning style is unique, I use different techniques to match his/her need(s). Oftentimes I use various games when teaching, whereas the student is having so much fun that by the time he realizes he's learning as well he looks forward to his lessons and completing it. For other students I will teach the lesson, allow time to practice and ask questions. I give homework to reinforce what the student has learned.
During my elementary and middle school years I had a love for words and spelling. My 8th grade teacher entered me into a Spelling Bee to which I was the runner up contestant.
While learning Algebra my freshman year of High School I discovered my love of Math. My senior year I received an award for the most academic female. Because of my love of math I double majored in Computer Science and Math in college. Later, I began teaching at a Christian Academy where I specialized in reading, spelling and math. The years I've taught K4-5 the students learned how to count to and recognize numbers 1 -100. I also taught them how to count by 2's, 3's, 5's, 10’s as well as 1 & 2 digit addition and subtraction. In addition, I taught them to read up to 4 letter words as well as sight words.
I've homeschooled both my sons, two of my goddaughters and have been teaching in the Homeschool Co-ops as well as tutoring in math, reading, reading comprehension and spelling for 13 years. During the 2019-2020 school year I taught Math skills in the Homeschool Co-op. I enjoy teaching & tutoring because it gives someone the gift of knowledge. I love to see faces brighten up with understanding and the smile in one's eyes when realization hits them. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
