"I received my master's of science degree in speech and language pathology from the University of Oregon. I have 11 years of experience and have worked with children grades K-8. I also provide accent modification for adult language learners! I love what I do! Building rapport with children and their parents, as well as adult clients, is very important to me. A happy person is a motivated person. I am constantly reading and engaging in professional development related to speech and language disorders and reading comprehension, and am always looking for new and better techniques. Additionally, I host student teachers every year who keep me in touch with the University of Oregon's current research and stance on interventions used in the field.
My number one goal is to make therapy fun. I make sure children know what their speech and language goals are, but I strive to make the therapy feel more like play than work. I tie all goals to the Common Core State Standards so that all the work I do with children directly supports what they are learning in their classrooms. I like for therapy to be functional so that not only do children develop skills useful for school, but they develop skills that will be useful in their everyday lives as they mature.
I am currently licensed through the Oregon State Board of Speech-Language Pathology and the Oregon Teachers' Standards and Practices Commission. Additionally, I hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
In addition to 11 years of experience supporting skills in expressive/receptive language, articulation, and stuttering prevention, I have extensive experience working on comprehension of fiction and non-fiction texts. I love training children to be active readers. I have a thorough understanding of the academic expectations outlined by the Common Core State Standards and provide reading comprehension support that fully aligns with these standards.
