"Hi! I'm Smriti and I'm an incoming freshman at UC Berkeley and a high school graduate with a 4.0 GPA, taking 12 AP Courses. I am passionate about STEM subjects and would feel comfortable teaching math from Algebra 1 to Calculus BC, as well as AP Computer Science A in the language Java. Additionally, I am passionate about economics and have played piano for 10+ years so I can also help with subjects such as Microeconomics and Music Theory. Finally, I received a 1570 on the SAT and an 800 on the Math section so I would definitely love to help with test prep/college application planning as well!
I have been a public speaking coach for 4+ years to middle school students and freshman high school students. I help my students edit their speeches, build confidence in themselves and practice presentation skills. I have taught students both one one-on-one and in small group settings (4-5 people). Furthermore, I served as a Writing tutor for my high school's Honors American Literature Course. I edited student essays, provided feedback on Socratic Seminar Discussions, and assisted my teacher with administrative duties. Finally, I am a dance teacher for the art form Indian Classical Dance with the Abhinaya Dance Company. I teach 5 elementary/middle school students for about 90 minutes weekly.
My goal with my teaching style is ultimately student understanding. I like to have students first try a problem themselves and help them based on the steps they've taken. I ask a lot of questions so I can understand the way they think and am a big supporter of the fact that no question is a bad question! I like to be approachable and want to create a fun yet productive learning environment." less...
