"I excel in breaking down complex subjects, developing content understanding and honing skills that enable more effective learning and communication. By illustrating core concepts, I strengthen comprehension and confidence, improving critical thinking, reading, and writing abilities. For AP class prep, I ensure that students understand official AP rubric requirements by providing effective models that guide speedy, high-scoring compositions.
For 15+ years, I have been teaching in-person and online in high school and college classrooms in the United States and Japan. I serve annually as an AP grader for AP World History (WHAP), though I also teach and score materials for AP US History (APUSH) and AP European History (AP Euro). As a former English department chair, I taught and supervised AP Lit and AP Lang courses. As an editor, I have managed writing centers specializing in college admissions (Common App, as well as graduate, medical and law school), research, and writing fluency. Additionally, I have been engaged by academic publishing firms in the revision of multiple AP-approved textbooks. These days I split my time between academics and agriculture, teaching online classes while I run a three-acre organic teaching farm where I demonstrate sustainable practices.
The classes I teach at high school and university levels include World/Global History, Japanese History, Chinese History, East Asian Civilizations, Environmental History, American Environmental History, US/American History, Modern European History, American Government (AP Gov), the History of Science and Technology, American Lit, British Lit, Literary Criticism, Nature Writing, Mythology and Folklore, and Introduction to Philosophy.
If you want a cheerful and flexible tutor who explains concepts and materials clearly and effectively, please reach out." less...
