"My name is Jared and I'm a software engineer at a tech startup in New York. I discovered my enthusiasm for coding as an undergrad at MIT while doing research in a neuroimaging lab - once I realized how much value I could deliver to the lab simply by automating a few manual (and rather tedious) tasks, I was hooked. I really did not anticipate how much I'd enjoy software engineering, let alone that I'd make a career of it.

One of the only activities I find as fulfilling as learning is teaching. There's something inherently satisfying about the experience of leveraging my own skills to provide value to others. In addition to merely possessing the relevant knowledge for the subjects I like to tutor, I take pride in my ability to communicate difficult concepts clearly and patiently. There was a time not too long ago where I wasn't familiar with any of the concepts I feel comfortable teaching now - my memory of what it felt like when those concepts just didn't "click" has proven instrumental in helping others navigate their way to the other side.

While it's worth mentioning that I got a perfect score on the SAT, being an "expert" on a particular subject or test certainly is not an adequate qualification for teaching. The last section of my bio captures why I believe I'm a strong teacher.

I've been working full-time as a software engineer for over 5 years now. While 5 years may not sound like a long time, I feel comfortable saying that there's been both a great breadth and a great depth to my experience. I've worked in large engineering organizations like Jet.com. My time there proved to be an intensive education in building resilient microservices, functional programming (lots of F#), and more generally, how to work collaboratively inside a massive codebase. Currently I'm at a five-person startup where we're building institutional-grade financial services for trading cryptocurrencies.
