"Although I strive to be a lawyer and have enjoyed volunteering with non-profit organizations, nothing has been quite as meaningful and fulfilling for me as being a tutor. I have a thorough knowledge of the way Spanish is taught in schools, and how to make it more approachable and interesting for students. I also have a lot of experience with writing and history, as I wrote and edited for my high school newspaper and enjoy taking advanced history courses for my Political Science major. I love working with children and adolescents, and have tons of experience being a song and game leader, which has contributed to my energetic personality.
In college worked for my the University of Michigan Comprehensive Studies Program, through which I had an average of 5 students - university peers who were in the basic-level Spanish classes - per semester and I would meet with them individually once a week. I also participated in a community program called PALMA, in which student volunteers go to the public library to tutor English to native Spanish-speakers. The beneficiaries of the program are children and adults. This program has helped improve my teaching skills by forcing me to slow down my pace and connect with people of an entirely different background than mine. I also have lots of experience editing, as I was a writer and an editor for my high school newspaper, and I continued to edit my friends' papers throughout college.
I have an abundance of insight and passion for learning, which I am excited to share with today's students!" less...
