my name is Jorge A. (also, Mr. A.). I am originally from Avilés, Asturias, in Northern Spain. I am a native speaker of Spanish. I came to the United States of America after graduating with a BA in English at the Universidad de Oviedo, in Spain, where I concentrated my research on English Renaissance literature, especially on William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe, John Dryden, Aphra Behn, Elkanah Settle, Lodowick Carlell, etc. In Western Massachusetts, I took some graduate courses on language acquisition and methodology over a year in order to be granted my teaching diploma (CAP or Certificado de Aptitud Pedagógica) in my home country by transferring the credits. At the University of Massachusetts-Amherst , I continued my studies and obtained my Masters in Hispanic Literature and Linguistics, with a concentration on the Spanish literature of the Golden Age, especially Lope de Vega. After that, I transferred to the University of Chicago, where I completed my Ph. D in Spanish, with a concentration on the works of Miguel de Cervantes, author of Don Quixote. I never abandoned my studies at the Universidad de Oviedo and I completed a PhD in English, with a concentration on the English adaptations of Spanish plays during the reign of King Charles II in the second half of the seventeenth century.

Outside my graduate work, I like to extend my academic research to issues related to teaching and education. As my résumé will show in further detail, over the last nineteen years, I have worked hard to complement my teaching experience with theoretical knowledge on teaching and language acquisition. In the past, the University of Chicago has invited me to talk about my experience as an international instructor working across divisions in the College.
