"My name is Miriam M. I am your child's Grade k-5 reading tutor. My specialty is helping struggling readers and those diagnosed with Dyslexia become confident, successful readers, and to love reading.

All lessons are 1:1 and customized to meet the needs and interests of your child based on their assessments. The lessons are interesting, fun and interactive using games, and activities. Each lesson focuses on phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, reading comprehension and spelling skills. Each lesson begins with friendly chit chat in order to create a friendly, safe and comfortable learning environment for the student. The lessons are sprinkled with lots of praise and encouragement as well.

I’m a very passionate tutor that works hard to prepare lessons that are engaging, interesting and fun, because I care that all my students should succeed in their learning. In fact, every student that I tutored made significant progress in their reading skills from when they first started. I get much satisfaction watching my students go from decoding each letter or word to being able to read books or passages with ease and fluency.

Qualifications:

I have a MS degree in General and Special Education from birth-grade 2. I’m also NYS teacher certified in general and special education birth-grade 2. I have Wilson reading certification (for grades 2-adult) I also have a one day training in Fundations (for prek-1). I took the full intensive Wilson 90 hour online training course along with a year long practicum with a student. It required 60 lessons with a student and 5 observation sessions by a Wilson trainer. Wilson follows a multi-sensory, explicit, and systematic approach. It is taught in a step by step process. Each step is built on top of each other and taught until student mastery before moving forward.

I’m also always following up on the latest research in reading and dyslexia by watching webinars, listening to podcasts, reading books and articles, and taking online workshops.
