"Hello! I’m Amanda, a certified special education teacher in NYC. With over four years of experience, I specialize in helping students bridge the gap in their literacy skills and go on successful post-grad careers. I graduated from Columbia Teachers College earning highest distinction on my Master's thesis centering on analyzing the experiences of young girls in special education settings. I studied English literature, history, and education during my undergraduate studies at University of Michigan as well.
As a tutor, my sessions are student-centered, focusing on your strengths while building skills using research-based methods. Whether you need help with reading, writing, executive functioning, or learning strategies, I’ll work with you to create a plan that fits your goals. I have helped students from a wide variety of backgrounds apply and get accepted to colleges and pass their state exams with flying colors. Students of mine have recently been accepted to Binghamton University, Hunter College, University of Southern California, The New School, and NYU.
I have specialties in reading comprehension, SAT prep, college applications, dyslexia, and written composition. I also teach a photography elective and have expertise in adobe creative cloud. Working with me, we will develop and individualized plan with steps to reach your goals. I am happy to communicate with other teachers or tutors to help reinforce skills, tools, or knowledge.
Outside of the classroom I am a long distance runner (I've completed four marathons!) and experienced ceramicist. My goal is to one day be a school administrator!" less...
