"I'm Olena, and I'm passionate about teaching math! I have rare qualifications: not only do I have a math PhD from Stanford, but I am also one of the small number of women with an IMO (International Math Olympiad) gold medal. I have a record of exceptional achievement on math competitions: I did extremely well on the AMC contests, qualifying for the AIME and then the USAMO multiple times. I am also an expert on other contests, including Mathcounts, the Math Kangaroo, the Math Olympiad for Elementary Students (MOEMS), ARML, and the USA Math Talent Search (USAMTS).
I am also a very experienced teacher. First of all, I've been an instructor at Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) for more than 6 years. AoPS is an extremely rigorous program requiring deep understanding and problem solving. At AoPS, I have taught topics such as Pre-algebra, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Precalculus and Calculus many times. I have also taught AoPS classes on Number Theory, Combinatorics, and Probability. Since all the AoPS classes emphasize concepts, I am an expert at explaining difficult topics clearly.
Furthermore, I have a vast breadth of teaching experience. I’ve been a college instructor and I also homeschool my young kids. This means that I’ve taught math starting with counting and ending with highly abstract topics like vector spaces in linear algebra. Nothing gives me as much satisfaction as seeing the "aha!" look on a student's face, and that's regardless of whether they are learning to add, figuring out fractions, or learning to differentiate. I find my range of experience invaluable: since I always know what's coming next, I can ensure that a student's understanding is robust enough to support future mathematical learning.
Finally, I have experience with many of the standard elementary curriculums, such as Singapore, Math Mammoth, Saxon, and Beast Academy. I have also prepared students for standardized tests such as the SAT and the ACT (and I got 800 on both math and verbal on the SAT.)" less...
