"Hi there! My name is Skye. I recently completed my PhD in biology and I'm excited to share my knowledge with other students. My work specializes in molecular biology and microbiology, but I would also love to serve as an academic coach and share my experience navigating three of the top universities in the world (Berkeley, Yale, and Stanford) for those who are interested in a similar path.

In my time at Yale, I was a teaching fellow for two years for the very popular Microbiology course. I led weekly office hours and one-on-one sessions helping students to understand the material. I rely heavily on visuals and drawing because molecular and microbiology are highly visual disciplines and I find that illustration (e.g., of molecular pathways) is often the best way to understand and absorb complex systems.

At Berkeley, I was an undergraduate teacher-scholar for the chemistry department where we practiced socratic dialogue. I find that this type of teaching–which uses leading questions to help students arrive at answers on their own–is incredibly empowering and effective at creating those "ah-ha!" moments. I strive to engage these teaching principals in all of my sessions to show students that they have the tools and the knowledge to take on harder questions.
