"I'm Dasia! I graduated from the University of Maryland Global Campus with a degree in Psychology. I've been tutoring math for as long as I can remember (my first job was in the 5th grade!) After graduating college, I worked as a Temporary Support Assistant at a High School. My job consisted of supporting students with special needs in all classes. I became a great help to the Algebra teachers and ended up assisting all students with their algebra work. My time there made me realize I wanted to pursue a full-time career as a mathematics educator.

I spent my first two years teaching at a private Episcopalian school in Honolulu, HI. I had the honor and privilege of developing and piloting their middle school science and mathematics program alongside the Head of School. Due to military orders, I moved to Louisiana where I began my work as a State Certified Middle School Mathematics Teacher for Bossier Parish Schools. I have been working for Bossier Parish Schools for the past 5 years. During this time I have taught 7th and 8th grade mathematics, Pre-AP Algebra I, and Essentials of Algebra. Pre-AP Algebra I and Essentials of Algebra are both high school courses offered to 8th-grade students. It is required that the 8th-grade students take the High School Algebra 1 LEAP Test at the end of the school year. I am proud to say that all of my students aside from one in the past two years have scored either Mastery or Advanced on the High School Algebra 1 LEAP Test!

In addition to teaching, I used my degree in Psychology to work part-time as a Mental Health Specialist. This experience has allowed me to build great rapport with my students and help them navigate any mental obstacles that may hinder their mathematical growth. Many students believe that they are not good at math and never will be. This is far from the truth!
