"Hi, I'm Mohammad! I received my bachelor's in mathematics from Rutgers University, New Brunswick (with minors in philosophy and computer science) and am currently a graduate student focusing on statistics and optimization here at Rutgers. As such, I have the privilege of taking a deep-dive into the theoretical aspects of my interests under the mentorship of some of the leaders in the aforementioned two and partake in cutting-edge research.
During my time at Rutgers, I was a learning assistant for Calculus 1 and just this Fall I was a teaching assistant for Data 101 (a class focusing on the intersection of basic statistics and computer science), whereby I led weekly recitation sessions in a small-group setting, held office hours to offer one-on-one mentorship, and helped grade assignments. Naturally, I tutor for any mathematics classes ranging from middle school all the way up to the undergraduate level. I also tutor for statistics, introductory physics, and computer science (including help with Python, Java, Microsoft Excel, SQL, Tableau, etc).
I have always found myself being drawn towards solving complex problems and thinking critically. The excitement when taking on a new challenge, analyzing the problem, exploring new ideas and gaining valuable insights in the process, finding optimal solutions and then testing them is absolutely exhilarating to me. To put it simply: I really like math! My hope is to kindle some of this excitement in the students I work with. I am a firm believer of helping students gain a holistic understanding of the subjects I teach. Too often, we get stuck on the technicalities of a problem and lose sight of the bigger picture. It is important to keep both in mind. Additionally, building intuition and an appreciation of the topics not only helps make the process a lot more enjoyable, but it also helps with retention. I've had great success in employing this teaching philosophy in the past so hopefully I can help make a difference for you, too!" less...
