"Hi! My name is Meghna and I am a passionate performer who loves teaching. I have been studying music since I was 3, including Indian and western classical voice, opera, jazz voice, broadway, classical and jazz guitar, and classical and jazz piano. I am currently studying Contemporary Voice at New York University! I attended Pre-college at Manhattan School of Music for classical and jazz voice. I was named a 2021 National YoungArts Foundation Finalist in Popular Voice and a Merit Winner for songwriting in 2020; selected into Grammy Camp 2020 and 2021 for Vocal Performance; won 1st in the 2019 NATS NJ Doris Lenz competition, 1st in the 2020 NATS NY, and 2nd in the 2021 NATS Eastern Competition. I was also a semi-finalist for the 2020 Hal Leonard vocal competition for musical theater and received the best soloist award for Blues/Pop/Rock Voice in the Downbeat Magazine 2021 Competition.
Teaching students of all ages is an activity that brings me a lot of joy! I have traveled to India to teach students there, as well as taught in the US. I am currently studying at NYU learning as well as teaching! I feel strongly about the fact that you never stop learning! One thing that is extremely important is to practice consistently. Practice does not make perfect; practice makes permanent. This consistency will help them gain a passion for their instrument and help them make progress as fast as they choose.
I greatly emphasize vocal exercises to help strengthen their voice. Once the student has a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce repertoire based on the genre of music they prefer, as well as basic songs that would benefit them to learn. No matter the ability level, fundamentals are of the utmost importance. I want my students to have a passion for music and be interested in improving as a musician. Each student should set their own goals, with the help of their parents and/or teacher, to have a clear path of what they want to achieve. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions!" less...
