"After spending most of my professional career in Atlanta, I am transitioning back to East Tennessee where I grew up, and I have decided to return to my passion of teaching and mentoring. While I do have the academic and professional background to be an effective tutor, I think my experience as the mother of two dyslexic sons has affected my approach to learning the most.
Both my twin sons have dyslexia, and one boy has ADHD and processing issues as well. They are in high school now performing well, and one is in the gifted program. The benefit to me of taking this academic journey with them is developing the understanding of how differently individuals can learn and how often external factors impact progress. I hope, in some way, I have had a role in helping them realize that differences in learning cannot only be a challenge but an opportunity as well. I would love to take similar journeys as a tutor.
I have the experience, training, and love of learning to help you succeed!
My experience and training in English and Literature runs deep. I graduated Phi Beta Kappa with High Honors with a degree in English from the University of Tennessee. Thereafter, I entered the Master's program, receiving a teaching assistantship. I taught Freshman Composition and tutored students in the university Writing Center, even presenting a paper at a Writing Center Conference.
While my academic life in English did provide both teaching and public speaking opportunities, my training at Emory University School of Law and my subsequent legal career solidified my public speaking skills. I have made arguments in front of judges, addressed a conference room of hundreds, led interviews, and presented in front of a board of directors. Although naturally reserved, I have great confidence in my ability to deliver a message effectively to different types of audiences.
Please reach out if you would like to discuss whether we could be a fit. I am not an ideologue! (A nerd perhaps ... but not an ideologue). I am" less...
