"I’m an enthusiastic and supportive tutor who worked for 2 years as a Learning Specialist at the Sanger Learning Center (UT-Austin) and a professor for 6 years at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX, and UT-Austin (where I completed my Art History Ph.D.).
As a Learning Specialist, I gained a 98% “strongly agree” rating for quality of support in post-appointment surveys (2021-2023). I’m thoughtful and flexible, with a focus on test-taking and studying strategies for subjects ranging from Organic Chemistry and Biology to English and History. I have experience strategizing with students for assignment & project management, as well as preparation for standardized tests (GRE, MCAT, and university-specific placement tests). During my time working as a professor, I gained specialized experience in the building of students’ critical reading and writing skills. Regardless of the subject, I strive to make each session active and interesting - not only does it make study less of a slog, but studies have shown such approaches to increase retention for the student!
Over the years, I’ve worked with students of all levels and skillsets. I especially love working with neurodivergent students (specializing in ADHD/Autism) to identify their unique paths to success in a high school or college setting. I encourage the building of strong inner and outer support networks so that students can increase their confidence and independence. As a neurodivergent person who has completed their doctorate, I bring both empathy and informed strategies so that students walk away feeling empowered and hopeful. Students can benefit from my first hand experience in applying different strategies for projects large and small, and they’ll find that I respect their individual preferences and needs." less...
