"Greetings,
I recently relocated to Colorado with my family. I have eighteen years of experience teaching undergraduate art and design courses in a wide range of media. I am very familiar with “smart” classrooms and how to effectively integrate new technologies into a studio/ classroom experience. In addition, I have a broad range of experience teaching to diverse groups of students with a variety of learning styles.
I have a broad range of experience teaching classes that include Drawing and Perspective, Intermediate Drawing, Advanced Life Drawing, Fundamentals of Design, Color Theory, Digital Illustration, Comic Art and a variety of graphic design courses. In my classes we create projects with clearly established outcomes and student initiated content. Students are asked to invest in projects by providing input to personalize and conscientiously shape the outcomes of the work. I believe the classroom should be a dynamic environment that promotes the exploration of a broad range of areas of interest including popular culture, technology, traditional fine arts, and critical dialogue. Most of my students already navigate social and educational networks using a variety of digital technologies. I invite them to expand their media landscape to include the theoretical, technical and cognitive skills essential for integrating traditional and digital technologies into creative practice in both educational and professional contexts.
As an undergraduate student I was mentored by a conspiratorial group of young fine arts faculty who designed their own curriculum. They were smart, fun and demanding. So were their classes. Our classes hinged on critical discourse, cultural expression and social relationships. They created an inquisitive, active and innovative learning environment. Collectively we explored methods for visual analysis, oral critique and effective creative expression. Methods I continue to explore with my students today." less...
