"I know what it's like to be both student and teacher of a second language. As a Spanish major with a minor in international studies, I was an exchange student to a university in South America, and I lived with a host family. After returning to the U.S. and graduating, I began teaching Spanish at a recognized private academy known for its academic excellence. While teaching Spanish, I realized the worldwide influence of foreign language education, and I transitioned to teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in Japan. Several years later, I was invited by a top ten university in China to be an instructor with its English Language Program. I taught first and second year students, most majoring in engineering and preparing to continue graduate studies abroad.
It's an honor to work with international students and those wanting to learn a second language. It's never easy to learn a second language and to live cross-culturally, but it's certainly worth it, and I will do all I can to help my students meet their goals (and even surpass them).
I believe that the best tutoring happens when book instruction meets everyday application. I am TEFL (Teacher of English as a Foreign Language) certified, and I have ten years of experience working with high school students, college students, and adult learners.
I taught Spanish for three years at a private academy, and I also have volunteered with numerous medical teams traveling abroad and throughout Georgia to offer health fairs.
I have been told by former students that my sense of humor and the creativity of my lessons made them want to come back every week. I still keep in touch with many who have graduated and traveled abroad for further education or work, and my best compliment is that I helped prepare them well for using English for effective communication. No matter whom you choose for language tutoring, my hope is that you succeed and use your language skills to help someone else along the way." less...
