"Hello, I am Yabrell. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and I minored in Theater and Film which led to me earning a Master’s degree in Film Production. I was a substitute teacher for 3 years after college and have countless hours of experience inside the classroom. I have a hands-on approach to learning and teaching. I am in touch with the goings-on of the world and I try to incorporate that into my teaching. I do my best to relate subject material to modern-day culture to keep it interesting for students. My goal is for students to be able to apply the things they learn to real-life situations rather than just regurgitate them for a test. I love the feeling of watching a student fully comprehend a lesson and the ensuing excitement of accomplishment that they feel to learn more.
With a degree in Communication Studies comes a lot of writing. Before I settled on the rhetoric concentration, I also studied journalism and public communication which gave me an appreciation for the 24-hour news cycle. I have written numerous academic papers and presented them at academic conferences. As a TA in college, I was required to proofread student’s papers and critique their presentations. My first year inside a classroom was mostly spent with students in special education so I have experience working with students of all reading and writing levels. I am TEFL certified to teach English as a foreign language.
I would consider myself a world traveler. One of my biggest goals is to fill my passport with as many stamps as possible. My favorite subject in school was always history and it continues to be. Any kind of history, it didn’t matter to me, I just loved to absorb information. I do know that some students consider history boring but just like everything else I incorporate current events into my lessons to keep it interesting and maybe teach a little.
After working with so many students of different ages I understand that everyone learns differently. I do my best to bend my approach to fit every stu" less...
