"During my years as a college professor, I was known and loved for my ability to both communicate well with my students, and to aid them in pursuing their dream of success in the field they had chosen for themselves. I often spent many hours after class coaching and tutoring my students, enhancing their language and reasoning skills.

After retirement, I have been tutoring with a program run by the public library system here in Las Vegas. Here again, my primary interest has been in helping my students develop self confidence and in this program, to improve their ability to use the English language. One of the real joys of my life is running into people who were my students when I taught at the college level, sharing that I was the best teacher they ever had. Teaching has been central to my life, and I hope to continue to improve the lives of those students I teach for as long as I can.

Students appear to approach tutoring needing both encouragement from their tutor, as well as a sense that the individual who is helping them truly cares. It is obligatory that a tutor help her student develop self confidence and an awareness of those abilities the teacher recognizes and admires. What can be more fulfilling than hearing a student say that working with me has provided the first time in their lives when someone has treated them with as much respect and kindness. Teaching on whatever level one performs is an experience in mutual learning. No matter how many years we work with students, individuals who serve as either teacher or tutor gain far more than they give.
