"Not so long ago the goal of education was to shape the thinking of younger generations so that, with solid background knowledge, they could, in turn, add wisdom to the common store. Since reasoning, interpretative, and problem solving skills are needed across the spectrum, different disciplines were interwoven and 'classics' -that is, the common pool of knowledge that had proved valuable and fertile over time- highly respected and heavily studied. All that has changed, in a misguided effort to be more efficient and inclusive most of our school systems have metamorphosed from an educational -organic flow of information, attention to the development of main themes/ideas, anchored and exhaustive treatment- to a 'training' role where everything is fragmented, details -significant or not- abound while fundamentals lack, and shortcuts are taken at all times.
This is where I believe I can help as a tutor. I see my job as teaching you how to organize materials, cut the unnecessary details, focus on what's important and be able to use what you learned in that particular subject when working on other subjects.
