"During my previous 20 year IT career in systems administration and networking, I began programming as a hobby. Through the years of studying Java, Python, and C++ I progressed to the point where I was writing scripts and applications to aid my in my systems administration duties. When I left that career in 2019, I devoted myself full time to becoming a coder and producing projects. During this time I released several projects on the Google Play store. In January 2022 I launched a teaching and tutoring business devoted to bringing the power of coding to everyone. In the past 2.5+ years I've instructed people of all ages around the U.S. over Zoom. I've taught courses of my own design and assisted students with their coursework in elementary school, high school, college, and independent online courses. I've taught age ranges from 7 years old into the mid-50s.

My approach to tutoring is to understand the student, their learning style, and their current understanding of the material then move them forward. Much of teaching is relating the unknown to the known so I use my knowledge of the student to help them understand the material by relating it to something they are already familiar with. I help simplify the material by emphasizing the most important aspects gained from nearly 20 years of study and practice. I give them what to key on and what to minimize. This is very important in programming as there are a lot of principles to wade through and programming instructors typically do not bother to offer these keys. I also give students tips from my own algorithmic problem solving process that I use when approaching practice problems or areas of projects where algorithms are needed. Algorithmic problem solving is rarely formally taught and students are left to figure it out themselves through experience. I allow student to learn from my general process so that they can develop their own.
